Surviving a Long Distance Relationship

A few years ago I met this wonderful woman; she had most things any man would want: sincerity, class, intelligence and she was knockout gorgeous. The only issue was that she came from a different Country and was only visiting for a while. I decided that I would just hang with her for the time that she was here and when it was over, bid her farewell and that was it.

Alas at the end of her vacation, my heart felt like it was dying and so I decided to try it, the most dreaded Long Distance Relationship (LDR)! I started telling myself I could not let her go, that absence makes the heart fonder, but one thing was sure in my mind, I had to give it a try. For the first few months after she left everything was fine. Then the doubts came, and I started being troubled whether it would last or not, whether she was being faithful or not, and I freaked out!

?

Every day on the planet, millions of offshore meetings occur with people leaving their families behind and being miles apart from their loved ones.? The global economy calls for more travels and people meet and connect and they are from different countries, so like me do you freak out, or do we find ways of making the dreaded long distance relationship work? SKYPE

?

Let us be practical here:

  1. We leave our families behind on long business trips
  2. Soldiers fight overseas for their Countries
  3. People meet each other online and make a connection
  4. Musicians, movie stars, and business consultants traveling all over the globe
  5. High School sweethearts going off to College

No matter what the reasons are, no one is really immune to the obstacles posed by being in a long distance relationship. Can they really work? Sure they can!

?

I now realize years after, that it was my negative approach to the difficulties of keeping up a long distance relationship ? that made me lose out to what could have been my best chance of love. Back then I just thought that long distance relationships were downright absurd and they were bound to fail. I am smiling now, because all my friends at the time kept saying, you are crazy, it isn?t going to work!

?

I am not going to give you 10 ways of making it work, I am just going to say to you, just think of it as a challenge. There are certain advantages to being miles away from your loved ones. Couples, who have the advantage of meeting up with one another frequently, sometimes fail to count their blessings after a while, and the relationship gets stale and complacent. For the LDR couples, they have reason to defy distance, to keep the connection alive, and to look forward to seeing each other like it?s the most important thing in the world!

?

The most important requirement in the LDR is to maintain it, and thanks to Skype, Email, Texting, Blackberry phones and I could go on, keeping in touch is not an expensive and time consuming as it once was. We are all now into instant gratification and so we do not have patience for the long distance relationship love. There is no reason for you to subscribe to that rubbish that ?Distance makes the heart forget? or ?Out of sight, out of mind?. You can send flying kisses via webcams or flood each other?s social networking site with sweet nothings!? It even gives you a peek into how the person will take the time to learn how to use these gadgets and do these things especially for you.

?It really isn?t impossible! If you want to keep the relationship, then no one or nothing should persuade you to do otherwise ? not your family, friends, and most especially not the distance.

Distance should not be the basis to end a relationship. Distance should be defied and considered a test to make the bond stronger. You are not alone, I was once there. I blew it and learned a valuable lesson from it, people survive it on a daily basis, and so can you!
